San Antonio -- Last day

Monday was our last full day in Texas. We left pretty early in the morning for Austin. First we met up with Doug at Quakenbush's. I left Nikki there with him and drove Georgie around for a nap. After her nap, we met Elizabeth, Graham, and Dean at the Austin Zoo. I've never been there before. It's a rescue zoo and it has a nice mix of animals and a lovely Hill Country setting.

By then House Park BBQ was closed, so we met Adam and Kevin at Phil's Ice House. I had one of my favorite burgers and we ordered Georgie her first kids meal ever.

Kevin rode back to San Antonio with us and we met my parents at Alamo Cafe. We got there a little early so we had time to play around in a little wooded area outside the restaurant.

The trip ended with my parents taking Georgie on a stroller ride around their neighborhood. Oh wait, the trip actually ended with me hugging the toilet bowl at 2am because of something I ate. But that's another story.

Here's the lion before he got offended at my presence.

And after.

The zoo had a large area where you could feed pellets to goats, sheep, deer, and llamas. This goat in particular was pretty aggressive.

It was pretty hot, but Georgie stayed well hydrated.

Note: More SA photos coming soon.

Today Georgie and I had a playdate with 2 other moms and, between them, 3 other kids (two are about 2.5 years old; the third is about 3.5 years old). Georgie practiced saying "Hi" and waving to the kids today. We've been having this meeting about once a week for a while now. There are sometimes 4-5 more kids there (including 2 closer to Georgie's age). We're changing the playdates so they're centered around a different activity each time, and we'll be having them twice a week. Today the kids played with paints, and then water.

It's a busy day: Georgie's napping now, and when she wakes up we're going to the National Zoo to meet up with a friend of mine from out of town and her 3.5-yr-old.

San Antonio, Day four

Today was a really fun day. We made blueberry pancakes and ate outside. Later, Nikki and my dad went phone shopping (because Georgie did indeed destroy Nikki's old phone). Then later Georgie, Nikki, my dad, and I all went eyeglasses shopping. I'll post pictures of Nikki's and my new glasses soon.

Tonight we had beef brisket, which was part of the enormous HEB meal deal.

Any period of time today not described in the above chronology was probably time spent by Georgie playing with her grandparents. She's having a blast with all the attention and can barely stop to eat. This is Georgie's new gameday outfit. Look for it every Saturday this fall.

Georgie wanted to see this video over and over on Grandpapa's laptop.

Georgie has been having a lot of fun driving her new car. And doing scary stunts on it.

The other fun thing we did today was go to a department store to get Spurs shirts. I told Nikki I wanted to get her one and she said, "Can I get a muscle shirt?!?" So I have a great picture of the ensuing gun show, but I think I'd get in trouble for posting it.

Georgie's impression of a baby

Happy Fourth!

Georgie had a very big independence day today. She got up a little early - before 7:30 - and we all had breakfast tacos. Then, sensing the full day ahead, she promptly went back to sleep for a nap two hours later.

At noon, the partiers started showing up. The group included Elizabeth and her boys, Graham and Dean, Georgie's honorary cousins. They all swam together, though Georgie got more enjoyment out of just watching the boys swim.

Then we all had a nice meal outside of burgers and dogs. Then I read Georgie "stories" from a promotional magazine that was free at the grocery store. She's not very picky.

We ended our night with another dip in the pool, this time accompanied by the grandparents. Georgie tricked them into getting in a kiddie pool and then got out and made them stay in. It was a nice sight. Georgie has gotten over any new-place jitters and was very content to play with whoever had the energy to play with her today.

We were going to go see fireworks tonight but it's after 8pm and still over 100 degrees so we are just going to relax at home.
